Personal Entries in Saturday Fashion Show

These are personal entries put into the fashion show by individuals, not vendors.

I would say that most are items crocheted by people following a pattern or it could be their own designs. But like me they would be considered amateurs.

I cannot remember things like what kind of yarn or where the pattern can be found. Sorry about that.

I do remember some of the items were put into the show by professional designers and the clothes will be in upcoming publications. Which ones? Can't remember. Sorry again.

I do think that these items are brighter, more exciting, and even more daring than the vendor fashions. What do you think?

More of the Vendor Designs

On Saturday night at the fashion show, I realized some of the fashions being shown were the same ones

from Friday.

But I'm including a few, because the angles are different or I missed them on Friday.

You can really see the three colors and designs of the cape from the previous entry. Then there's a slightly better view of the design on the lace shawl.

Vendor Fashion Show

On Friday the vendors gave a fashion show. This show was given to display items that could be made with their yarns or they were examples of kits that could be purchased. The models are all volunteers, not professionals. The photographer was just an amateur, too.

The cape was knitted in three different panels: different colors and stitch patterns which don't show up well.

I really liked the white cardigan: crocheted but not in any typical stitch. The blue sweater was lightly cabled and the lace shawl was so delicate you really needed to be close to see the pattern.

The blue skirt with the uneven hem draped beautifully. The blue cape was done with yarn called Stuff; different yarns tied together in a skein. it also draped beautifully. The variegated sweater had a lot of shaping. The bottom shawl was knitted on giant needles of gigantic yarn. Someone said the gauge was a stitch to 3" and was done in no time. The skeins were the size of pillows.

Announcing.....

the arrival of Amelia Rose! She arrived around 5:30 this morning and weighed in at 6 lb. 6 oz. Rebecca and Mike are also doing well.

Rebecca feels she will be too preoccupied to help with "Hats for Guatemala" this Tuesday. I think we can live with that decision.

Getting Around in Buffalo

On the market floor, there were plenty of vendors but we'll see some of their offerings in an upcoming blog. However, on the market floor is where I met two of my favorite people.

You can see the three of us in the Rwanda Knits booth with Cari Clement. This wonderful lady is head of the design department for Caron International and a great support for our own Yarn Ball. Their stories from Rwanda are encouraging and hopeful. I am really glad to be helping the Rwandan women, even if it is only in a small way.

Then I got a photo op with Doris Chan, one of my favorite designers. She was putting the items out for display from the design contest (another blog entry). She stopped so I could get a pic, and introduced me to her proud mother. She was all over the conference, helping out.

Before we left Karen and I had a chance to do a boat tour of the inner harbor and rivers of Buffalo. You can see me here on the boardwalk with a lighthouse on the point. This where the Buffalo River meets Lake Erie inside the breakwater.

There was a violent storm during our trip and lightning hit one of the towers that was part of an elevator bridge, so we couldn't go any farther upriver. The captain turned the boat around and took us to the outer harbor but still within the breakwaters. You can see the sailboat out there and the storm receding. When we got off the boat the sun was shining again.

A Sign for the Table

Randy Joseph made a linoleum cutting of single crochet and made a print. The title is Three Rivers Crochet. Then she laminated it so we could set it on the table and newcomers would know they had found the group. I still need to find a stand for it (coming soon to a table in Panera's). It was a thoughtful gift. Crocheters are often creative and talented in ways other than yarn. Thanks, Randy!

We posed it with 2 more preemie hats. I'm sorry I don't remember who knitted them. They're adorable. We all know it wasn't me!
