Getting Ready for the Yarn Ball

Becky's Shawl

Becky doesn't get to the group as often as she'd like because she works most Saturdays. She has made a shawl for the yarn ball in filet crochet from Paton's Brilliant. It has a metallic effect that gives the yarn a glittery effect, which really doesn't show well in pix. Becky wore her Halloween tee so it shows through the shawl. This was a tricky pattern because it was constantly decreasing while also carrying a design through the shawl. Look for it again in the Yarn Ball pix soon to appear in this blog!

First Snow

For those who live in other climes, Southwestern PA experienced its first snow yesterday. I haven't even built in the habit again of wearing a coat/sweater on my way out. When I am I going to get to wear those ponchos I made?

Save the Children

We were really lucky last Saturday to have Tricia Puskar stop by Panera's and tell us all about the Knit One, Save One program. Last year we participated in the Caps for the Capitol program. It was quite a success. The preemie caps are being continued this year until  the end of the year. They will again be part of a kit  for new mothers in extremely poor areas  of the world. Many infants don't make it through the first day, let alone the first year. So if you wish to make preemie caps, too, go to SavetheChildren.org/KnitOneSaveOne for more info. We will have a few handouts at the Yarn Ball on Saturday. We found patterns at the website for knitters and crocheters last year.

60 Scarves in 60 Days

We rounded up what we have so far. Then took pix. I think maybe Lynn has given up sleeping. She has done the greater numbers of scarves. She has also managed to do these designs from donated yarns! Not that the others of us aren't doing our bit, too. Count the scarves. What number do you get? We're not done yet!

Rwanda Knits Project Benefit

Tonight at 11 p.m. EST Rwanda Knits will be auctioning off the samples of many crochet designers that were sent in and used by publications and yarn companies. Haloween Costumes

                                                                     

 

I spent last week making 2 Pumpkin costumes; each for a grandniece and grandnephew. The pumpkin hat is basically from a design on Crochet Today a few copies back. The basic outfit was cobbled together from ideas found in about 4 publications, some quite old. 

I gifted one already and you can see Maddie in her pumpkin hat. The outfit was made from Red Heart Super Saver in pumpkin and paddy green. It's pretty heavy but I thought a softer yarn wouldn't hold a pumpkin shape. Hope it's cool on Halloween!
